Smart Cells (Malta)
Smart Cells (Malta), Malta's branch, was opened by Sylvana Brannon, a mother who collected the cord blood of her own children after learning about it while living abroad and herself chose SMART CELLS INTERNATIONAL for storage. Purely from the perspective of an educated mother with a scientific background trying to provide her children with the best insurance plan for their future, Ms. Brannon researched the various storage options available after taking into account the criteria that she considered crucial for such an important decision, and thus chose SMART CELLS INTERNATIONAL.

Following her positive experiences as a customer of the company, she took it upon herself to raise awareness locally on the value of banking umbilical cord blood, and was entrusted by SMART CELLS INTERNATIONAL to manage the Malta branch of their operations. Ms. Brannon met with the responsible local authorities and worked incessantly to bring cord blood collection and storage to Maltese families, in both public and private hospitals - a first in Malta.

Ms. Brannon, a graduate in Biology and Chemistry with University teaching experience in Canada, also provided training to all the midwives in all the hospitals, and regularly holds information sessions for parents, medical professionals, and media so that interested individuals are provided with all the information to make an informed decision...one that is right for them.

In recognition of her hard work in raising local awareness on the therapeutic benefits of umbilical cord blood, Sylvana was awarded the 2006 JCI Outstanding Young Person of the Year Award, after also winning the category of Business, Economic, and Entrepreneurship Accomplishment.
